Project overview

The Ebbsfleet Development Corporation was set up by the government to speed up delivery of up to 15,000 homes and create a 21st century garden city in north Kent. The purpose of Ebbsfleet Garden City was to provide a high quality, attractive and sustainably-constructed city as well as opportunities to live and work.

With sustainability at the heart of the newly constructed city, the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation understood the requirement to decarbonise transport in the area. A major part of the decarbonisation plan was to introduce electric vehicle charging points to various residential and commercial areas. This would both encourage locals to make the switch to an EV, and also alleviate the current demand of EV drivers needing a convenient place to charge.

EVC proposed that Ebbsfleet Garden City should install 52 22kW fast charging units across 12 different locations, to provide residents and workers of the green city with over 100 places to charge. EVC’s first location to future proof was Castle Hill at Whitecliffe. Working in partnership with Henley Camland, the landowner, and Enterprise, EVC deployed 3 new charging bays whilst implementing scalable infrastructure for a further 6 spaces to charge. The future chargers are set to be installed seamlessly as EV demand increases in the area, causing minimal disruption to the commercial car park.

EVC continue their deployment of charging points across Ebbsfleet Garden City on a fully funded financial solution. This solution means that all installation, future installations and ongoing maintenance of the EV chargers are provided at zero cost to Henley Camland, the landowner of Whitecliffe, that delivers 6500 dwellings within Ebbsfleet Garden City.
